Mile Repeats at the Track + Leftovers + Throwback Thursday

Happy Friday Eve!

I have a few throwback Thursdays for everyone, and this one was fun to see come across my Facebook Memories from 4 years ago! This was a Marathon in Beaumont 6 weeks after the Chevron Houston Marathon and I came in 1st in age group after getting lost on the course. I remember that police officer speeding and then yelling at me “you’re going the WRONG WAY”!!!!! Saddest thing, it was a two loop course and I didn’t get lost the first loop. Don’t tell anyone that though πŸ™‚

I made my famous roasted salmon and Brussels sprouts for dinner and cut up a mango for Lynn. I had the rest of my poke bowl, but added more romaine, onion and some of the salmon and Brussels. Everything but the kitchen sink! Perfect! I really needed this after…. drum roll…. my first track workout since December and my injuries!!!!!! (I’m so full right now, ate the whole thing!)

I almost kissed the track as I rolled up and was so excited. I realized at that point that I didn’t have water or fuel (GU or Nanohydr8) so I just sucked it up buttercup style and relied on my excitement πŸ™‚

I had my tie dye Brooks on so I knew I’d run happy! I need to bust out my Lucky Shamrock shoes next week, can’t wait!

I decided I was would do a mile warm up, three mile repeats and a cool down!

The warm up felt good. I was finally awake and my goal was just to feel good and make each mile faster than the previous…

-Mile Warmup @ 8:45 (Didn’t Save)

-Mile 1 @ 8:28

-Mile 2 @ 8:03

-Mile 3 @ 7:48

My goal is to get back into the speed work at a safe and injury free pace so I was happy with this trip back to the track! I’m coming again for you next week!

I took a look at the two easy runs I had the day before and the day I got injured in December. Happy that my miles are in line and a bit faster for shorter distance.

As you can see with the 10 miler on Christmas Eve, my time was slow. My ankle was in so much pain when I stopped and I should’ve listened to my body as it bothered me the entire 10 miles. I learned a lot that day, about listening to how I’m feeling, stopping if I need to, and that it’s okay! Taking a few days off to rest and recover is so much more important than pushing too hard and risking injury. Trust me πŸ™‚ Total rookie move!

Another rookie move? Not taking water to the track with me! Anchors are something Lynn and I love (we have matching anchor tattoos on our heel) as we are each other’s anchor! I love my girl and she truly is just that. My anchor in everything this life has to offer πŸ™‚

  1. It’s sounds like you’re serious about your training! My wife did lots of mile repeats when she was training for Boston. I like quarters. In HS track and cross country, my coach gave me an appreciation (and fear) of track workouts for distance runners. His favorite was the ladder: 1200, 800, 600, 400, 400, 200, 200.
